Viés de atenção às imagens das mudanças climáticas e seu impacto no engajamento cidadão

A comunicação visual pode influenciar a percepção pública da crise climática. Neste estudo, avalia-se até que ponto o viés de atenção às imagens relacionadas às mudanças climáticas está ligado às atitudes pró-ambientais. A partir de uma abordagem de autorrelato aplicada a 312 universitários, que foram expostos a peças negativas, positivas e neutras, constatou-se que a valência emocional delas é fundamental para a percepção de risco. Os resultados sugerem que as imagens que enfatizam as perdas ambientais e econômicas podem ser mais atraentes, mas desmotivam e impedem o desenvolvimento do pensamento mais reflexivo sobre o que cada um pode contribuir, enquanto as imagens positivas convidam as pessoas a pensarem de forma ampla e a encontrarem soluções. Nesse sentido, constatou-se que a capacidade do público de visualizar metas e sucessos de curto prazo gera mais disposição para apoiar soluções ambientais. Essas descobertas fornecem evidências sobre as imagens que devem ser usadas para estimular o envolvimento dos cidadãos no combate às mudanças climáticas. Os resultados sugerem que não é conveniente transmitir visões perturbadoras ou sentimentos de medo ou de desconforto para o público, a fim de evitar respostas psicológicas defensivas de rejeição às questões ambientais.
