This editorial presents a special issue focused on the interdisciplinary study of contemporary visual culture in Latin America, emphasizing photography and film. Drawing from art history, semiotics, cultural studies, and communication, the contributors explore memory, identity, emotion, violence, and resistance through various visual works. Highlights include research on photo-oil painting in Peru, political art by Regina José Galindo, the documentary Visión Nocturna by Carolina Moscoso, and Pizarro, a reflection on memory in Colombia. The issue also examines narrative elements in Lucrecia Martel’s cinema. Overall, it aims to provide academic insight into Latin America’s visual representations of the present world.
